Five Things I Value

For #WIPjoy day 2, I'm to list five things I value.

1. Rainy days - Rainy days put me in a weird kind of mood. I'm not really happy, not really sad, just sort of quiet and reflective. Those are good days to write, because my brain feels uncluttered and free to really focus on the story.

2. Good friends - I am not a friend that can talk every single day. I have an extremely hectic life, and that doesn't leave me much time with my family let alone time to talk to other people. I have enough friends I can count them on one hand, and I'm fine with that. I appreciate a friend who doesn't mind when life gets too busy to talk for us both, who I can still go to after a stretch of silence, and one that feels I'm still there for them as well. Not having to stress about whether or not I'm talking enough really helps with my anxiety.

3. Nature - Nature is my cathedral, and though I don't get out into it as much as I used to what with work and university, I'll get there again. Hiking in a forest, watching water flow, staring up at the clouds, all of that brings me a quiet, inner peace.

4. My husband - That man is understanding. Even though, right now, we don't get a lot of time together, if I need to finish a scene I started at work, he doesn't complain. He lets me talk out scenes with him, he helps me flesh out plots, he sometimes provides me with plot points I later develop fully, and sometimes he's just a springboard. I love him dearly.

5. Downtime at work - I work in Critical Care on the overnight shift. When all the patients are sleeping, there's a few hours right there in the middle of the night when I can write. I'm really thankful for that because otherwise, I wouldn't have time to do it (or my schoolwork).
